Ten Things of Thankful #45

Ack! I almost forgot about this new bloggy endeavor I had taken. So here it is, 3:30 on Sunday afternoon, and I’m just now remembering that I have to be thankful.

Not only do I have to be thankful, I have to be thankful for 10 whole things. That’s a whole lot of thankfulness. I hope I can do it. Let’s get to it, shall we?

  1. I’m thankful to have my car back. Even though the repairs set me back about $700, I’m just now getting confident in driving it again after having the initial repairs failed me on a state highway. I spent most of last week driving scared, wondering when the shaft would pop out of the transmission again, leaving me stranded in the middle of the road. That didn’t happen, so thank gawd for that.
  2. Earlier this week I wrote a poem while in one of my foul, depression induced shitty moods. You know, one of those moods where I feel like everyone hates me and I don’t care about anything. I turned off the comments on said poem because I didn’t want the pep talks or the everything-will-be-alrights. Many of you reached out to me anyhow, via email, Twitter, and Facebook to let me know you were there. Though that was the last thing I wanted, it did make me feel good to know so many people cared. I got the warm and fuzzies, and stuph.
  3. I’m thankful I can still take the twins in a game of 21. The weather has been fantastic this weekend, and earlier today the boys and I went to the park. Even though I hadn’t played basketball in a long while, I still took them to school, despite Baby C blatantly pointing out all my gray hair last night.
  4. I’m thankful for this delicious cup of coffeh I’m sipping on. Coffeh!
  5. I’m thankful for propane grills. Last night I grilled up some burgers for the boys and I to enjoy. Yummeh!
  6. I’m thankful for naps. Baby C is currently taking one which is the only reason I have the time to write this post up. He was tired and cranky after our excursion to the park earlier.
  7. I’m thankful for my job. Sure, I barely make enough to scrape by, but I lost one of my coworkers this week. His position was no longer needed on our project, and his last day was Friday. I’m thankful I’m able to stay on.
  8. I’m thankful for air conditioning. After all that basketball earlier it was like an answered prayer to have arctic air assaulting me through the vents in the dash.
  9. I’m thankful to have found a new video game to get into. Lord of the Rings: War in the North is pretty cool so far.

This has nothing to do with the game, but I found it funny so I decided to share.
  10. I’m thankful to have found things to be thankful for. And yes, that counts.

Woohoo!! I made it to ten again! I got stuck after 8 and didn’t think I’d finish. Phew!

Audience Participation Time!
What are YOU thankful for, Maphia?

          1. Oh I know. I kind of feel bad for Josh, she pretty well ignores him when she comes over. He thinks he’s doing something wrong, but I keep telling him that he’s just become entirely not cool because she’s 11 and HORMONES.

  1. I’m thankful my husband hasn’t started yelling at the TV (yet) while playing Dark Souls 2 (again).
Also, I have 42 things to think of to be thankful for… I got stuck at 13.

      1. Remember the numbers I asked for? The first person to reply said 42. Does a “momentary lapse of sanity” count as a reason to get out of writing a post? haha

    1. Loved watching my BF play Dark Souls 1 (he never finished), I’d just get some snacks together and watch him while mentally making bets with myself on whether or not the controller would get thrown at the TV.

          1. Dark Souls definitely does…he was playing it around Halloween and apparently the developers set it up to where the AI would switch from harder to easier (more evil to more good) depending on what time of year it was. Valentine’s Day was supposed to be all good. He didn’t realize it until looking online for help. Kind of nefarious on their part but definitely conspiring against him.

      1. Haha that’s what I do! Or I go in a different room and count down the minutes until he walks in ranting about this boss or the other. And now he wants me to play, too! I don’t know how to get out of this one…

        1. I’d tell him that after watching him almost have a stroke over it there’s no way I’d play…I’m certain that Little Big World would be far more relaxing. 😉

And then I can comment that I am thankful that you are thankful for your readers being thankful for your 10 things of thankful . And then you can add that as #12…

  3. Yay for being thankful! LOTR video game! I played the Return of the King one that came out from start to finish in 3 days. Did the same with Zelda when the Wii came out. This is why I’m not allowed to play video games anymore.

  4. Thankful it’s Sunday. Thankful for naps too. Naps are awesome. Thankful for jalapeno cheddar popcorn chips. Everyone go rush out and buy them RIGHT NOW. Seriously, they are fucking amazing & surprisingly not bad for you.

Last but certainly not least, I’m thankful all of you lovely people give me something interesting to read before I drift off to sleep.

  5. I liked your ten things, I think we all have things in life that are important to us and that we should express our gratitude for. You have twins to deal with along with a baby, your days are very full I would think, but they do grow up before you know it and then there are a whole lot of other things to be feeling grateful for. Life itself is a gift no matter we spend it. Enjoyed reading your blog today.

  6. look at you on the TToT! Very cool. I’m thankful for hockey play offs. Oh shit, the damn ducks just scored. You think it was my fault? did I hex the Stars? (I’m also thankful for hockey fights).

    Naps. Rule.

  7. Dude… dude… dude! Air conditioning? What part of the world do you live in??? We’re still freezing our butts off up here! I’m so jealous.

I saw your poem the other day and that you had turned off comments. I hit like and left it at that, but it stayed with me. I hardly know how to respond to things like that, other than to say it’s very brave to let yourself be open like that, and very awesome that you were able to convey it so well that I felt a bit gut-punched by the end. Wish you better days, TD, and that your car doesn’t let you down again.

    1. Thanks, Trent. It is hard to know how to respond to things of that nature.

My car will need more work soon. I just hope it holds out until I can afford it.

I live in Cincinnati. It was in the mid-70’s here yesterday. Normally I would just roll down my windows, but after all that running around I wanted cold air.

  8. Oh geeze, now I’m feeling like an asshat. I really need to get on this since you said you couldn’t and look at you being all badass and stuph. Naps totally rule and I’m a little jealous about the grill and the air conditioning. Oh America, I miss you sometimes.

      1. There are grills but we don’t have one because no yard or balcony. Boo. And no, there is no air conditioning in Germany as a standard.

          1. About the air conditioning? Well, it’s never really been needed. Their houses are built differently and it typically doesn’t get too hot. Last summer was an exception, but even still it will only be hot for June-August. Even still, I’m dreading it a little if we are still stuck in the rooftop apt where the heat is awful. I’m praying the place we are trying to go see this week works out.

  10. I thought this was going to be a joke post, chocked-full of your witty barbs. I didn’t know you ACTUALLY had to some up with that shizzle. That’d be tough for me today.

Taking them in 21 has a shelf life, dad. The day will come when the result will be different. The bell will toll for thee. Enjoy it while you can.

  11. It’s silly but whenever I start getting to the FML stage (which will be coming up shortly) I sit down and mentally go through at least 10 things I’m thankful for. When I do that it helps me get some perspective and I don’t feel quite so bad.

But video games help. I’m currently slogging my way through The Last of Us and Bioshock 2.

        1. I’ve heard about that, but haven’t checked it out yet. Sadly, money is tight right now so I can’t game like I used to. Plus, Baby C (my three-year old) demands we watch Bubble Guppies with every free moment.

          1. Lol. Ah Bu-Bu-Bubble Guppies! My nephew likes it too.

I’m happy with the PS3 and not ready to shell out the cash for a new gaming console. I’m also not all that interesting in paying for subscriptions. Hell, half the time I buy most of my games used. Except Bioshock Infinite and The Last of Us. Those I pre-ordered and paid on.

          2. I decided I think I’m going to start gaming on my PC. I mean, if they’re going to keep upgrading these gaming systems so often I may as well just get a PC. Plus, I can play on the PC while Baby C watches Bubble Guppies.

  12. TD, my dear, I suck for not being here. I’m so glad you made this list and found it within yourself to be thankful this week – TEN, even – because I know that poem cost you a lot, and to create a list like this in a week when you’ve felt like that, is incredible and shows huge strength of character. You know that I get that way, too, and this thing – this thanks thing – as a discipline, has proven time and time again to be worth its weight in gold, (like, if you could weigh the internet, which you can’t, so that’s rather a crap cliche but you know what I mean…) because it really DOES make a difference.

I’m so glad people reached out to you after that. And glad that you’ve had other, really good things going on in your life – time with your kids, and having your car back, and keeping your job….SO not to be sneezed at, and definitely worth celebrating.
