Ten Things of Thankful: Sick Edition

I’m extremely behind on my gratitude posts. I haven’t done one since week 48 and this is week 51. I actually didn’t really feel up to making this post because a certain British friend of mine somehow spread her cold to me across the expanse of the Atlantic Ocean. But then she added me to the Ten Things of Thankful FB group this morning and pretty much guilted me into this post. She’s such a bully…

Anyhow, I don’t have the wits right now to fluff this post up because Advil Cold and Sinus is kicking my ass, so I’ll just get right to my list…

  1. Baby C spent the week at Virginia Beach with his mother. He had a swell time, but I missed him terribly. He came home last night and he’s been nonstop since he got here. At some point in the past week he learned how to call the play-by-play while I’m driving. “Daddy! That’s a red light! That means stop! Daddy! That’s a green light! That means go! Where’s that lady going? That car is in the way!” Well, he kept the ride entertaining, at least.
  2. I’m grateful for Advil Cold and Sinus. It may make me drowsy, but it sure kicks the shit outta my cold symptoms.
  3. The 70th anniversary of the Allies’ invasion of Normandy has reminded me I’m eternally grateful for all of the brave soldiers who fight to protect us.
  4. Somebody broke into my mother’s apartment yesterday and stole her purse. While I’m obviously pissed off that someone violated the sanctity of her home, I’m relieved that she was not hurt.
  5. Monday night I watched the twins receive promotion certificates for completing middle school. They are now high school freshman. I’m grateful they have been relatively easy to raise, and that they do so well in school. I rarely have to help them with their school work and they always bring home A’s and B’s on their report cards.
  6. I’m thankful for Southern Comfort. No explanation necessary, I hope.
  7. I’m thankful for air conditioning. It’s hot as hell outside. Okay, not really, but hot enough for me. If it could just be winter all year long I’d be happy with that.
  8. I’m thankful for my grill. If there’s one thing I do like about summer it’s cooking on the grill. It’s convenient, so there’s not much to clean up afterwards, and stuph just taste better cooked over a fire.
  9. I’m thankful for Lego video games. They are surprisingly fun, and always hilarious.
  10. I’m thankful for all of my bloggy friends. Every single one of you has made a difference in my life in some way or another. Thank you.

  1. You pulled it off good for you! I hope that you feel better soon and I’m glad that your mother is okay!
I’m thankful that I was able to track down the guy who made off with my cart in Walmart yesterday, with the help of a bouncer looking Walmart staff guy…

  3. Ohhh bless your Drun Ken Boots, man! I’m sorry I gave you the cold, but I guess I was too eager to be friendly and now you’ve gone and gotten sick 😦 I hope you feel better soon. The offer of ‘Soft Kitty’ is still on the table.

Your poor mom! That’s so shocking and upsetting. I hope she feels safe, and that she’s managed to cancel all her cards etc. That sucks.

YAY for your list though, even if you portray me as a right ol’ meaniepants.

  4. I always start reading these lists not overly involved, but by the end I am hooked and wondering about my own life. Hope you’re feeling good now. Sorry about your mom, scary for her.

  5. Love Lego video games. I’m 75% through Indiana Jones. Started playing with my grandson and found a game I can play 🙂

    Hope you feel better soon.

  7. You could also be thankful that you have friends close enough who can give you a cold all the way from Britain, but maybe that’s better left for the week when you feel better – or, hopefully as soon as tomorrow.

  8. Colds are no fun any time of year, but somehow, they are worse in the summer. Glad you found good drugs to knock yours out.
Your twins are headed to high school? Your life will never be the same. They get so BUSY in high school! My daughter just finished her freshman year; we hardly saw her.

  9. Oh boy, ti’s all good except your Mom? Also, I have had a nasty cold for a few days now as well. Pooped. Thanks allot. Spring and summer colds suck more than winter colds. Maybe, it’s that they don’t make sense for some odd reason. : )

          1. Dunno. You sending some germs my way? : ) Funny, I was just blowing my nose . . . again. I have to drive 7 hours or so today and it’s not too much fun when one has a head cold. Uuuugghhh This state is too big. Hahaha

  10. Feel better… I love the baby driving play by play… not to mention the batman… I always wanted to see Robin smack him for being such a smug bastard! Oh well maybe next time.

  11. Baby C sounds adorable…. Advil, we get them here as well, great stuph. Had to pop into the pharmacy to buy a pack today since we have winter in this part of the world. Hope you feel better soon. 🙂

  12. Thanks for the laugh with Baby C and the play by play. It reminded me of my son after discovering the GPS would say when mommy was speeding. I would be barraged by “mommy you are speeding! Why are you speeding!”. Sigh.
Hope you feel better soon 🙂

  13. Great TToT and extra brownie points for doing one while ill. Hope you get to feeling better soon! I am also enjoying both grilling and AC. It’s so humid here that 80 degrees feels like 90. I like to be out in it, to a degree, but I’m always happy to be able to come home and bask in the AC!

    1. There’s is no greater feeling than walking into an air conditioned room from the hot and humid outdoors. Okay, I’m sure there is at least ONE greater feeling, but it’s up there.

      1. It chilled off some today (only 76F) so I opened up all the windows. I love AC, but I hate how it builds up all the food smells and dog smells and whatever smells.

  14. You’re a good man, TD. One thing though, you have to be a trueblood Canadian to want winter all the time and still have the marbles to grill outside. Not that we don’t do it at times, but it’s rough man, real rough.

Here’s to being alive and relatively secure and safe and comfortable, and for friends.

  15. A few things:

1.) Feel better soon! Glad to hear the medicine is working.
2.) Even more glad to hear your mother wasn’t hurt.
    3.) Baby C is adorable.
    4.) CONGRATS TO THE TWINS!!
5.) Just another reminder of how much us blogging friends looooooooove you.
6.) I wish it could be winter all year long, too. Who wants to sweat profusely as soon as they get out of the shower? Yuck.

  16. Ay to you, on the cold thing. BTW, because of your rave reviews of Zyrtec, I got rid of Claritin and switched over. My allergies are manageable and I can breathe!! I am thankful for that! 🙂

  17. Ugh. I’m sick too. Glad your mom is ok. And I wish it was always any season all year except summer. Grrrr…..

  18. Did either twin ever hang out with someone who you wished they didn’t? How do you handle something like that? You work so hard and all it takes is one bad influence and it’s all out the door.

I made some ribs on the grill over the weekend. They didn’t have that fall-off-the-bone consistency but they were tasty. I wonder what I did wrong?

    Like

    1. No, I haven’t run into that problem yet. Well, they hang out with their mom, which drives me nuts, but I can’t do anything about that.

If, however, they did, I’d probably just sit down with them and have a frank discussion about why I don’t like whoever it is they’re hanging out with. Luckily, they both have good heads on their shoulders about that kinda thing.

As for the ribs, I’ve never been brave enough to try making my own ribs, so I couldn’t even tell you.

  19. What is it about summer colds that just suck so bad? I’m sorry you’re sick and I hope by the time you get this comment (days late, which seems to be my new M.O.) you are feeling better. I know Southern Comfort is your thing and I remember having a nasty cold back in the day and SC served as my meds 🙂
I’m so sorry about someone breaking into your mom’s place. That’s awful but, like you, I’m glad she wasn’t hurt.
