Ten (or perhaps less) Things of Thankful: From the Couch

This past week has been one of the toughest I’ve had in a while. Frankly, I didn’t even plan on doing this post today because it’s too tall a task to look for anything positive right now.

BUT…there is at least one huge thing to be thankful for right now.

For years I’ve wanted to take the twins up to Ann Arbor to see a Michigan football game. Tuesday evening my dad called me. He and my step mom already had tickets to today’s game, but my cousin, who has season tickets, had some extra tickets when those who were supposed to attend canceled at the last second.

Dad called me and asked if I wanted to go. I told him I couldn’t go, but I’d love it if he would take the twins. And he agreed.

Yes!

I’m sitting on the couch watching (while writing this on my tablet) the game with C while the twins are there watching the Wolverines implode. (You’ll be job hunting soon, Hoke.) Even though Michigan is having their asses handed to them, the twins are there taking in the much, much livelier college football experience.

Of course, there are other things I’m thankful for. My friends. My family. The amazing support I’ve received from everybody during these recent trying times. I’m also still thankful for coffeh, and the fact that C finally just went down for a nap. Halle-fucking-lujah.

Even though things have been dark, stray rays of light are sneaking through the obsidian clouds. Lastly, I’m thankful that, even though I’m in a pretty shitty mood right now, I can see those rays of light.

  1. Yeah – when I have gone through bouts of depression – I have gotten bored with feeling shitty – and start managing to see that it all ain’t black and white and grey … there are few colors other colors to consider in this “rainbow” (sorry trite, but true) thing called fricking-fracking life.

    1. It was a travesty. It was like watching an execution. They were horrible today. Still, it’s an experience they won’t soon forget.

  2. If you can still see the rainbow, then you can get to it eventually,TD. That’s wonderful that the twins got to experience a live game – it is quite an eye opener for a young’un. They’ll have a lifeitme memory of that TD. Keep up the faith,my man, we are rooting for you!

  3. I’m grateful for your posts. I’m also grateful for potatoes. Potatoes are fucking awesome. If you stare at one for long enough, no matter what’s been getting you down, I guarantee you’ll feel better. Also, huzzah for that magnificent gif.

  4. You’re incredible. Because the hardest time to post TToT is when you’re at your lowest. That’s actually when you’re supposed to do it. I never even try. Well, once I spoke to Beth when things were bad, and she said, “Hell, some days I’m just grateful for coffee.”

I never forgot that. Because I’m always grateful for coffeh. I’m drinking some right now.

Welcome back, friend. And yes – there’s nothing like seeing a football game on a crisp fall day at a big, rah rah school. It’s not even about the game; it’s the whole experience. So glad the boys got to have. that.

  5. Rays of light through obsidian clouds? GORGEOUS imagery! Even from the darkside, you manage to wax poetic. I love it 🙂

YAY for the twins’ exciting game, and YAY for Baby C’s nap!

  6. Brilliant call for your dad. I’m counting on my fingers for you… Dad, Baby A, Baby B, Mom, Baby C, that’s five, coffeh, Baby C sleeping, friends, friends emailing you even when you told them not too, and seeing that there’s some sunshine or at least something shiny the other side of the clouds… Yup, you made it to 10. 😀
