Every now and again a song grabs me, gets stuck in my head, and makes itself the center of my world for a time. Sometimes it’s the lyrics. Sometimes it’s the music. Sometimes it’s both.
So Long by Saliva is a beautifully smooth song about a lost loved one and it’s been stuck in my head for days now. There’s a unique thing going on in my head when I hear it, however. My mind is making up different lyrics than the ones written by the band. In order to (hopefully) keep this from continuing to happen, I’ve written them out here. I have no idea from whence these words came nor what they may mean to me. All I know is that they are there and I don’t want them in my head anymore…so you guys can have them.
Hope you enjoy.
So Long – Alternate Lyrics
Once I
Was a boy who had it all
Now I’m
Just a man scarred by the fall
I’m looking up the rabbit hole
Darkness descends upon my soul
Sometimes I doubt that I will ever gain control
So long
Can’t stop my heart from brakin’
I’ve been so wrong
Time to start over again
Didn’t see
You were stringing me along
In your eyes
I’ve committed every wrong
I’m wading through my heart’s debris
While drowning in my misery
Sometimes I wonder what you ever saw in me
Why did you leave?
Why did I stay?
I just always feared we’d go
Our separate ways
So long
Can’t stop my heart from brakin’
I’ve been so wrong
Time to start over again
(Over again)
Hot and strong, short and fright’ning
Love struck like a bolt of lightning
I lost all control
I lost all control
I lost all control
So long
Can’t stop my heart from brakin’
I’ve been so wrong
Time to start over again
(Over again)
(Over again)
Loved the tune… grabbed it immediately. Something about that hard-driving piano sound that always gets me, especially when it’s got such an epic sound to it.

Probably put it on repeat tomorrow at work… a good new song is better than coffee. Can’t believe I just said that.

Yeah, I think you crossed a line with that comment. The only thing I love more than coffee is my children…

Whew! great song – and I like your lyrics too Scott. When I first saw the title in my e-mail I was afraid you were packing it in – I’m so pleased that you are not. Sing on my friend!

Oops. I didn’t think that title through too well, eh? Sorry ’bout that.
And I will sing on. I put on quite the performance on the drive to work this morning.

I think that now that you got these lyrics out of your system, you’ll just start writing the next version 🙂

I like Saliva. Need to listen to this another day when it’s less unacceptable to plug in, but *hugs* to you, and keep the music going.

Good tune! I’m the same way with songs….they can really get me some times, for the good and bad, but I wouldn’t want it any other way.

I wouldn’t either, really.
