How To Lose Readers in 10 Ways

  1. Ensure you post on a regular basis to build readership. Then disappear for two months with no notice.
  2. Tell other bloggers that, even though you plan to be around and read…don’t.
  3. Stop sharing other bloggers’ work…because the demons in your head tell you that no one gives a fuck anyhow.
  4. Build relationships and connections on social media, then quit using them altogether.
  5. Spend time building a physical relationship instead of virtual ones.
  6. Give up a job that pays you to surf the internet all day (and, thus, paid you to write) for a job that keeps you busy for 50+ hours a week.
  7. Pay attention to your 4-year-old instead of your blog.
  8. Become so cynical and disgusted with society that you can’t write because all you’ll do is bitch about current events.
  9. Create lists of 10 with only 9 items in them…then treat the rest of the post like a journal entry.

It’s been a very hectic summer. First and foremost, because of my job. We did a complete network rebuild over the summer, and working so hard for so long leaves me completely drained on most days. When I get home my only priority is not to think.

Other things have been happening, too. My mother moved out this past weekend, so I was finally able to get Baby C back in his own room and out of my bed. I swear that kid does gymnastics in his sleep. My relationship with C’s mother is going very well, and things are progressing nicely. We made it to a family reunion, got covered in mosquito bites, and had a blast. The twins spent most of the summer at work with me. I wanted them, since they have no idea what they want to do with their careers, to see what it is I do to see if they like it. They liked it, for the most part. I, however, found myself wondering why I willingly brought two miniature versions of myself to work with me on a daily basis. What the hell was I thinking?

On the downside, I’ve been increasingly disgusted. I’m disgusted with humanity. I scroll through Facebook and the news is just horrifying. Cops are killing unarmed civilians (white and black). Children are being murdered at an unprecedented rate in Cincinnati. Donald Trump is running for president…and leading the Republican polls. Jon Stewart retired. It’s like misanthropy was injected into my heart and is slowly coursing through my body. I had to unfollow a lot of new sites because I just can’t take any more bad news. It’s really true that ignorance is bliss. Perhaps that’s not the best solution, but my mental health is more important to me than being an informed citizen.

Speaking of mental health, it’s still mostly okay. I’m still taking my meds; nothing has changed there. The stress from work has been effecting me lately, though. I’ve been shorter with some folks than I prefer to be. I’m becoming easily irritated. I’m hoping that once things settle down and I can sleep regularly again that my patience will return.

This is about all the rambling I can do, tonight. I’m pretty sure this post sucks so I need to wrap it up and publish it before I reread it and decide to delete it because, really, who wants to listen to me bitch?

Tell me about your summer. What have you been up to? What have I missed? What posts should I be reading?

  1. Nice to hear from you. Even sporadically. And you know what? You’re allowed to have a life — it doesn’t all have to be through your computer. It’s True! And while it sounds challenging, your new job sounds great. It is terrific to get something out of your job besides a paycheck; it sounds like you’re able to now, which is different from the old one.

I actually miss your periodic “stuph” blogs about current events.

And yeah. The world is going you know were in a you know what. Sucks.

    1. I don’t know that I could do the current event thing right now. After seeing the video of that cop killing that dude just a few miles up the road from me I’ve just lost all my faith in humanity. Then the next day (or so) a 4-year-old was shot. I can’t stand it.

        1. It is. And if the local news is forcing me into a cave I can’t imagine what global news would do…

I tried to watch the Republican debate last night…just out of sheer curiosity. I had to turn it off. What a bunch of idiots. Not only our their ideals mostly misguided, most of them, instead of directly answering the questions posed took their opportunity to recite obviously rehearsed answers. I was like, “C’mon!! Just answer the effin’ questions!!”

          Sigh…

  2. Our country is kinda circling the drain. I can’t stomach the news myself anymore. Nice to hear from ya… be well my blogging friend.

          1. I do…I got sidetracked in an email where a daydream got derailed and I got left out. I think I’m the ONLY person who could get left out of a threesome in her own imagination. *sigh*

          2. Well no – nor I, but that was the suggestion – that Instigate the dream and then watch if I got tired, and then I thought I’d get jealous just watching and anxiety kicked in and it all went to pot…it was a very silly line of thought.

  3. I like to turn people off by asking what’s on their face, then saying “oops – I didn’t realize that was their face.

    What?

I went to Ohio this summer. I’ve also been riding my motorcycle every chance I get.

  4. Hey, I’ve missed you tonnes. But I get you. I care. And this was an excellent post. I don’t think you are capable of writing something that sucks. (hugs)

  5. Summer of Hell all around. Don’t lose heart, dude. Just don’t. We might not win this thing, but we’ve got a lot of fight left in us.

You just keep putting one word in front of the other, and dream.

  6. Welcome back! It took me a few seconds to figure out who this was, but here you are, safe and well. Kind of.
My summer consists of taking an exam, writing a paper and working. Nothing exciting here. Also, barely any blog posts, though I think I will have more time for that now again. Hopefully it’s the same for you!

    1. It took ME a few seconds to figure out who I was, too? I was like, “Who is this dude and why does he sound like me?” Twas quite a momentary commotion.

How is school going? How much longer do you have?

          1. I spent five months in Poland, and I wanted to travel there instead of writing papers, so yeah, I have to do that now 🙂 Currently I’m home and hoping to be leaving again in about a month again!

  7. Hey – I missed you too. Not much new here except finally getting around to leaving a man I love. I’m on vacation for two whole weeks! Oh and I bought a bikini (first one ever) and a bike and am using both 🙂
I think you living your life is a perfectly reasonable reason to not be around. xo

    1. Really? You’d never owned a bikini before?

I can’t even remember the last time I rode a bike. Honestly, I’d be scared to even ride one around here. People drive like maniacs.

For example, just the other day just a bit north from here, some dude doped up on…something…caused a multi-vehicle accident, then got out of his truck (completely naked) and ran a mile down the interstate completely naked before the police caught him.

I’m sure that dude isn’t the only person driving like that…

      1. Never ever. I put up a post about it (with a picture lol) because yes… I had always felt I should be in better shape. Now I just went for it.

And the biking has been good for far. City driving is a bit insane but I’m used to it.

    1. I know you do. I know you stopped, too. And then you came back…like Jordan. WOOT!

Seriously, though, I like my job, but right now it’s like being caught in a hurricane.

  9. I had to do the same with my own Facebook News feed. Now I follow what I like to call fluff. I think it’s been 2 days, but it’s nice.. I may slowly begin to follow informative pages, but I am going to be more choosey since I think you’re right that mental health is more important than being an informed citizen.

  10. The news sucks – that hasn’t changed much. Life waves up and down but that’s what keeps us challenged. My blog took a hit when my mum died and I still haven’t found my rhythm. But what I do look forward to is reading blogs like yours with a straightforward style and honest opinions.
Hope you find respite. Looking forward to your posts. 😀

  11. Welcome back to writing. I totally understand the being too busy thing. Plus it’s kind of important to spend time with people you care about.

That was a really cool thing to do, to take the twins to work with you. I hope they’ve gained motivation to get careers themselves, as well as learning what dear old dad does all day!

  12. I’ll listen to you bitch anyday. These issues are our (almost everyone’s!) issues.
I’m glad the depression monster has been kept at bay.

& Hey, who needs readers when you have friends that don’t care how often you post- we just care.
