It’s Saturday!!!! That means I don’t hafta work, can sleep in, and get to answer 9 questions from Crazy Sam! Why 9 and not a nice, round number like 10? Because Crazy Sam!!
Saturday 9: Kiss (1986)
Unfamiliar with this week’s tune? Hear it here.
1) In this week’s song, Prince insists there’s no particular sign he’s more compatible with. Do you take astrology seriously?
Not in the slightest. I could read every horoscope for every sign every day and find things that apply to me in them. I don’t believe that the positions of celestial bodies have anything to do with what happens to me or what type of person I am. Everything I am was given to me by my parents in the form of gentic DNA, and I can see either my mother or my father in almost every action I take.
2) He tells his prospective lover there’s no need to be flirty. Are you a good flirt?
Uh…I don’t know. I’ve never flirted with myself, nor have I conducted an exit interview with women I’ve had relations with. Can I get back to you after I figure out how best to answer this question?
3) He refers to the nighttime soap opera Dynasty. Were you a fan?
Ha! No. I avoid drama. It’s contagious, and I’m allergic.
4) “Kiss” was recorded at Sunset Sound Recorders in Hollywood. Built by Walt Disney Studio, it’s the studio where the soundtracks to Mary Poppins and 101 Dalmatians were recorded. When you think of Disney movies, what’s the first song that comes to mind?
Well, today, it was Why Should I Worry from Oliver and Company, which is weird. I figured it would be that Frozen song, but my mind seems to have…let it go.
5) Prince said he was “obsessed” with Mozart and read everything he could find about the master. Do you often read biographies? If yes, who was the last one about?
I’ve never read a biography. I’ve read memoirs, though. Tell me what I’m missing.
6) He loved snacking while watching a movie in the theater and would mix Goobers (chocolate-covered peanuts) with his popcorn. When you go to the movies, do you visit the concession counter?
Typically, no. Way too expensive. However, I took C to see the new Puss in Boots movie this past weekend and got us a medium popcorn, and a drink. It cost more than the tickets did…
7) In 1986, when this song was popular, Peewee’s Playhouse premiered. While ostensibly for children, this show had many, many adult viewers. Do you ever watch kids’ shows today?
I don’t watch modern kids’ shows, no. C tries to get me to watch the shows he likes, and they’re just…so…stupid. That said, I do still watch certain things I liked as a kid, like Disney shorts (the old ones from the 20s, 30s, and 40s – not that new shit), Animaniacs, Pinky and the Brain, Disney and Dreamworks movies (Puss in Boots wasn’t that bad), etc.
8) Also in 1986, Sears shoppers were painting their interior walls with “Country Clover,” a pale beige with a hint of pink. What color is the room you’re in right now?
Plain, boring white.
9) Random question: Do you enjoy pressing the pedal to the metal and driving fast?
I did in my youth. Not necessarily because I enjoyed speeding, but because I’m impatient and wanted to get where I was going. These days, speeding makes me nervous and uncomfortable. I’m much more cautious now. Nearly everything I see turns into a million different catastrophes in my mind so I’m busy trying to avoid them all.

The prices at the concession stand at the movie theatre promote smuggling.
